Janhvi Kapoor’s Unexpected Maturity Surprises Her ‘Ulajh’ Co-Star Roshan Mathew

Janhvi Kapoor’s continuous impressive performances with women-centric films has earned wide-spread attention. Her latest character adaption in the film Ulajh, released on August 2, 2024, has garnered praise for its depth. In the film, Kapoor plays a challenging role of IFS officer from a well-known family of patriots. While working in a crucial job away from her home, she gets caught up in a risky personal conspiracy that could change her career.

The film, which features a stellar ensemble cast including Roshan Mathew, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajesh Tailang and Meiyang Chang, has received praise for its narrative and the performances of its actors.

Roshan Mathew, who predominantly works in Malayalam industry is well-known actor in the region and entered Bollywood cinema by signing some extraordinary movies like Choked and Darlings, recently spoke with Indian Express about his experience working with Kapoor.

He expressed saying that he was surprised at Janhvi Kapoor’s maturity, noting that she was “so mature and perceptive” and the one who fully understood the responsibility of her role as Suhana in Ulajh. While, he shared these thoughts with Kapoor on the third day of the movie’s shoot, she responded to him saying, “Ya ya, most people don’t expect it”.

Roshan Mathew is currently making a mark in Hindi cinema has further discussed on the topic which continues to be the talk of the town, on ‘Nepotism in Bollywood’. Highlighting about how star kids often receive more opportunities and second chances compared to outsiders. He remarked that “film family actors get more second chances than people from outside,” contrasting this with the more challenging circumstances faced by those without industry connections.

In a recent interview with IMDb, the co-stars of Ulajh discussed an interesting topic: “If the movie were to be made in Malayalam, who would be cast?” Roshan Mathew revealed that he had his eye on Gulshan Devaiah’s character ever since he read the script and would like to reprise the role in a Malayalam version. Further, Janhvi Kapoor mentioned that Anna Ben would be a perfect fit for her role. For context, Kapoor’s film Mili was a remake of Anna Ben’s lead film Helen.

Directed by Sudhanshu Saria and produced by Junglee Pictures, Ulajh is now playing in theaters.
