Bollywood Films Associated With Makar Sankranti Celebrations

Kai Po Che

Titled on the most popular term of the festival, Kai po Che is related to Makar Sankranti in a few ways. Released in the year 2013, the film is set in the background of Gujarat, where the actors have a shot a kite-flying scene. The story is originally seen revolving around three friends who start an academy to train aspiring cricketers. But before they realise their goals, they experience an earthquake, an unstable political situation and communal riots.

The film Kai Po Che starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkumar Rao and Amit Sadh as the three friends, whose friendship as portrayed in the films garnered huge public attention upon the film’s release.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is more or less a beautiful depiction of the Makar Sankranti Celebration. The song Kai po che, or better searched as “Dheel De Re” shows the celebration of kite flying at the terrace where Salman Khan cheers up the joyous occasion in Gujarat.

Next is Shahrukh Khan’s film Raees. The film features a beautiful song ‘Udi Udi Jaaye’ that depicts the Makar Sankranti celebrations, while SRK-Mahira dance along in all-dressed up avatar. The song gained immense popularity upon its release and is preferred as one of the songs to be played during the kite-festival.

This Aamir Khan film might be made on a completely different setting, but one of its song sequence ‘Ruth Aa Gayi Re’ will bring you to the beautiful celebrations of the Makar Sankranti festival. The song is picturised upon Aamir Khan and Nandita Das, where he is seen teaching the actress how to fly a kite.
