  1. Laal Singh Chaddha Boycott Trend

Aamir Khan starrer “Laal Singh Chaddha” was the first ever target of the cancel culture aka the boycott trend. A segment of netizens came out and urged the audience to boycott the movie. The netizens shared the old interview video of Aamir Khan in which the actor was seen commenting on growing intolerance in India. The film even faced legal trouble and protests. And due to the ongoing backlash, the film became a huge box-office failure.

2. Raksha Bandhan Boycott Trend

Apart from Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar starrer Raksha Bandhan was yet another film that was released in the theatres on the same day. And just like Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar’s “Raksha Bandhan” also became a target of the boycott trend. The film became the target of the trend after an old Hinduphobic tweet of writer Kanika Dhillon resurfaced on social media.

3. Brahmastra-Ranbir Kapoor’s Beef Eating Comment

Following “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Raksha Bandhan” Ayan Mukerji’s directorial Brahmastra also became a target of social media backlash and protests. The controversy went even further ahead after the Bajrang Dal members refused to let Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ayan Mukerji enter a temple citing an old video where Kapoor mentions that he is “a beef guy” who loves to eat the meat. However, despite boycott calls and protests, the film came out as a “hit”.

4. Liger-Black Money Controversy

Another controversial film of the year remains Puri Jagannadh’s directorial “Liger”. Apparently, the controversy started after Congress leader Bakka Judson filed a complaint stating that many politicians have invested black money in the film to turn it white. Charmmee Kaur and Puri Jagannadh were investigated for the same.

5. The Kashmir Files-Nadav Lapid’s Comment

Israeli filmmaker and IFFI jury head, Nadav Lapid criticized Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Kashmir Files. During the closing ceremony, Lapid stated that he was disturbed and shocked by the movie The Kashmir Files. He further called Kashmir Files a “propaganda, vulgar movie”. Many Bollywood actors came out and slammed Nadav Lapid for his statement. Later FWICE also bashed Nadav Lapid and asked him to issue an apology for the makers.
