Zoe Saldaña Reacts To Emilia Perez Co-star Karla Sofía Gascón’s Controversial Tweets

Zoe Saldana took the opportunity to reaffirm the broader purpose of Emilia Perez, pointing out how the film’s central message resonates with marginalized communities.

Oscar-nominee actress Karla Sofia Gascon is currently facing backlash after X (formerly Twitter) users found tweets from 2020 and 2021 that talked about some ‘controversial’ views on Islam, George Floyd and diversity at the Oscars. Reacting to the same, Emilia Perez co-star Zoe Saldana has addressed the ongoing controversy during a recent Q&A session in London.

Zoe expressed her disappointment over the situation and made it clear that she does not condone any form of harmful rhetoric. She said, “I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad. It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group. I can only attest to the experience that I had with each and every individual that was a part, that is a part, of this film, and my experience and interactions with them were about inclusivity, collaboration and racial, cultural, and gender equity.”

There are already going Karla Sofia Gascon, the first openly transgender actress nominated for an Academy Award, lately issued a public apology after backlash over her posts resurfaced. She has now even deleted her X account.

In a recent statement shared by Variety, Gascon apologised for her previous remarks, acknowledging their potential to cause pain. “I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt,”As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness,” she wrote
