Ramayan’s Sugreev Dies Of Cancer

Actor Shyam Sundar Kalani, who played the role of Bali and Sugreev in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan has passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer. Actor Arun Govil, popularly known as Ram due to his role in the show has mourned the death of his co-star and wrote on Twitter, “Sad to know about demise of Mr. Shyam Sundar who played the role of Sugreev in Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan”… A very fine person and a gentleman. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ramayan’s Laxman, Sunil Lahri too paid his last respects to the late actor. He wrote, “Very sad and sorry to hear sudden demise of our colleague Mr Shyam Kalani who played role of sugriv and Bali with us in Ramayan God give peace to his soul and strength to his family to face irrecoverable loss…. RIP.”

Shyam Sundar played both Surgreev and Bali in the show. Ramayan was his first TV Show. Just a few days ago, the episode of his entry was aired on the show.

Ramayan is currently being re-telecasted on DD National. It was done to keep people engaged during the lockdown in India. Within a few days of the telecast, the show got the highest ratings for a Hindi GEC since 2015. Just the first four episodes, garnered 170 million views. The series originally ran from 25 January 1987 to 31 July 1988. 

Arun Govil is happy for the re-telecast as he believes that the show will bring people together and bring positivity.
