Fans of the iconic show CID are excited as it gears up for a sequel CID 2 expected to air around Christmas 2024. The beloved trio ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet and Daya, played by Shivaji Satam, Aditya Shrivastava, and Dayanand Shetty, will soon reunite onscreen. But in a surprising reveal Dayanand Shetty, who plays Inspector Daya shared that a CID movie was in discussion before the decision to revive the series.
During a recent chat on the AP podcast, Dayanand Shetty spoke about his return to TV with CID 2 and his appearance in the recently released Rohit Shetty’s film Singham Again. When asked about these roles, Shetty expressed his typically low-key attitude, saying, “Agar koi aur hota toh bahut kuch bol pata, but main yeh sab cheez nahi dimaag mein leta.” But then came an exciting revelation for fans. He added, “Hamara show (CID) jo hai off-air tha for the last six years, now from last one year hum koshish kar rahe the ki we were planning to come up with a ‘CID film’.”
Yes, you read that right, as Daya revealed. The team had started working on a CID movie that would show the lives of the iconic CID characters after the series ended in 2018. According to Shetty, “CID film, which is like a post-CID, show bandh hone ke baadh CID cops ke saath kya hua aur unke life ke saath kya hua. So, we had come up with a very interesting story. Bahut acha tha, we were quite charged up ki hum uss film ko shoot karenge.”
The planned CID movie would explore what happened to the core characters after CID went off-air. Shetty explained, “Matlab CID bandh hoke, 3 main characters jo hai inke saath kya hua? Vo kaha gaye, ACP sir-Daya or Abhijeet kya kar rahe hai.” The story would have looked at their personal lives and the impact of their years on the force. Shetty shared that the team was genuinely excited to take the beloved characters to the big screen and explore new dimensions of their lives.
Just as the CID team was diving into movie preparations, Sony TV, the original broadcaster, reached out with unexpected news. Shetty revealed, “hum film pe lage hue the, soch rahe aur achanak channel se aata hai ki, ‘we are reviving the show and we’re getting the whole shows back and specially CID, which was a flagship show for Sony for almost 21 years, so, we are planning to revive that.’” This surprise announcement delighted the entire team, who had no idea that CID would make such a comeback after six years off the air.
Adding to the excitement, Shetty’s fans got a treat when he appeared in the teaser of Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, which was released on Diwali 2024. Seeing Daya make his entry on the big screen thrilled fans, especially those who grew up watching him in CID. Shetty reflected on the love he’s received for his role, saying he was overjoyed by the fans’ reaction to his character’s return.
While there’s no official confirmation yet about the CID film, Shetty’s hints suggest that there might still be hope. A big-screen CID adaptation would undoubtedly draw a huge audience, eager to see the famous detectives in a new format. With CID 2 returning, fans can look forward to reconnecting with their favourite characters, but the possibility of a CID film is still out there and that’s reason enough for fans to stay excited.
In the meantime, CID 2’s promo, released on October 27, has already built anticipation for the new season. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what the sequel brings, though they’ll miss Inspector Fredricks, played by Dinesh Phadnis, who sadly passed away in December 2023.
