Taika Waititi To Reimagine ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ Into Two Netflix Series

Academy award winning director Taika Waititi signs a deal with Netflix to write, direct and produce two animated series based on the works of children’s author Roald Dahl.

Jojo Rabbit and Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi is all set to write, direct and produce not one but two animated series based on the works of children’s author, Roald Dahl.

Taika’s association would be based on the characters and world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while the second series will be purely based on the Oompa-Loompas, the mysterious workers in Willy Wonka’s factory.

In an official statement, Netflix revealed that “The shows will retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time,”

Roald wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the year 1964, the books were so successful that in 1971 Mel Stuart decided to bring the story to life on the silver screen, starring Peter Ostrum as the titular character and since then there are many reimagined versions of the story which includes movie, plays, an opera event and games.

The partnership between Netflix and Roald estate came into existence back in November, 2018, other than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the media conglomerate will also adapt Dahl’s other stories such as Matilda, The BFG and The Twits.

Taika seems to be the perfect choice to create the universe, as his previous works such Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, and The Mandalorian has made him a notable name among the successful filmmakers. As of now, we just have to wait and watch how Taika manages to satisfy all the needs of Willy Wonka fans.
