Movie Rating

In a nut-shell:

Mardaani 2- As Hard-Hitting as it can get in the era when #MeToo moment is soaring high and women still aren’t safe in the broad daylight.

Cast: Rani Mukerji, Vishal Jethwa, Vikram Singh Chauhan, Shruti Bapna

Directors: Gopi Puthran

Producer: Aditya Chopra

Rani Mukerjee plays ruthless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy from the 2014 film Mardaani. In this instalment, Shivani is up against a young psycho killer who rapes young women and brutally murders them.
Right in the beginning, writer and director Gopi Puthran sets the tone of the film giving a clue to the audience that it is gonna be a chilling ride as the killer is on the loose in Rajasthan’s education hub Kota.

Vishal Jetwa plays Sunny, who is a remorseless young killer and challenges Shivani to stop him if she can. Even with his innocent face, he manages to deliver a chilling performance by getting into the skin of the character and delivering the accurate Rajasthani accent.

The constant cat and mouse race between Sunny and Shivani just gets more thrilling with each scene as the rape and murder cases keep on mounting and the killer keeps on outsmarting the cops. Both the first and second half will keep you on the edge of your seat. With no songs and gripping narrative, the film keeps the viewers engaged. The writing of the film constantly hammers upon gender inequality with most male characters portrayed as misogynistic. To sum up, the story is brutal and hard-hitting and Rani Mukerjee is steller as an unforgiving cop.
