Actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan is often leading controversies for her candid attitude. Whether it is about commenting on the newly passed Indian Union Budget or it is about talking on her family’s relationship with Aishwarya Rai, she is always upfront.
Once again, the actor, turned Rajya Sabha MP expressed offence on how she was addressed at the Parliament. While a discussion on the UPSC kid’s death at Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi – the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh addressed the actor-cum-politician as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan”. The 76 year old female immediately objected to the “address” reprimanding the patriarchal society that she lives in.
Jaya Bachchan asked Mr. Harivansh Narayan that it was not mandatory to use his husband’s name for addressing her. “Sirf Jaya Bachchan bhi bol dete to chal jata” marked the actress. While the deputy chairman jokingly tried to pass out the conversation, she further added expressing disappointment that the society believes that a lady should always be better known by her husband’s name and that she does not have any identity of her known.
“Unka koi astitva nahi hai, unki koi uplabdhi nahi hai”, she commented describing what the society thinks of a female.

However, the chairman corrected himself afterwards calling her, “Smt. Jaya ji” and claimed that she has a big ‘say’ in all the matters. No matter how much good her bond might be with Big B, the infuriated Jaya Bachchan definitely did not like being adressed by his name, in the parliament where she represents a political party.
After the video was released, netizens were seen either mocking or supporting the lady. A user commented, “She is trying to act the character of Madam Indira Gandhi in Parliament as she may not get the role of Mother India 2 version of Nargis Movie”. Others wrote “Kuch nahi ghar se lad kar aayi hogi”, which shows not many from the audience like her attitude much.
