The former actress and activist Somy Ali shares insights on her Bollywood journey, tumultuous relationships and shocking claims.
Somy Ali, the American-Pakistani actress who made a mark in Bollywood with popular 90s films like Anth and Aao Pyar Karen, has recently stirred up conversation with her revelations about Bollywood, especially her reportedly past relationship with superstar Salman Khan. Ali, who has spoken about her experiences in various interviews, recently took to a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session to share more about her life and work in Bollywood, giving fans a raw look into her experiences and personal struggles.
In response to a user who asked, “Tell something about Bollywood that an aam aadmi will be shocked at,” Somy Ali didn’t hold back. She shared her thoughts on the ongoing controversies surrounding the Bishnoi gang and their influence on Bollywood, stating, “The Bishnoi are now the Dawood and the Chota Shakeel of Bollywood.”
When questioned about her exit from Bollywood, Ali revealed painful details. Responding to “Why did you leave Bollywood?” she stated, “Because I was tired of Salman’s 8-night stands, not one. Also, I didn’t appreciate being physically and verbally abused on a daily basis.” Her response was blunt and caught the attention of fans who were curious about her past. Clarifying her term “8-night stands,” she explained, “One night stand times 8 days and nights in a row…”
Ali also mentioned that she was approached to make a comeback in Bollywood. However, this attempt was reportedly blocked. She wrote, “Yes, I was approached and even wired money for two films in Mumbai, but Salman found out, and I had to wire back the money. He has told all my friends and any single human I knew in Bollywood to never have any contact with me.” Adding a note of warning, she remarked, “Just a warning to all those who stop to me, when you stand next to Salman, make sure you are wearing a bulletproof vest, or the Bishnois might miss their aim given his height.”
Ali shared her views on several high-profile incidents, including the deaths of Sushant Singh Rajput and Jiah Khan, both of which have been shrouded in controversy. Regarding Rajput’s death, Ali stated, “Sushant Singh Rajput did not suicide; in fact, he was murdered.” Touching upon Jiah Khan’s case, she added, “We still know what happened with Jiah Khan as she was pregnant and hanging from a ceiling fan, and Suraj Pancholi went to Salman for advice, which concluded in Jiah’s death.” These comments have reignited the conversations around these cases, which have left the public with many unanswered questions.

When a Reddit user inquired, “Hi Mam, just wanted to ask how is Salman as a person in real life?” Somy Ali responded, “If walls could talk! Forced abortions! Wait for my novel/memoir!”
Ali also addressed her past friendship with filmmaker Karan Johar. When asked, “What are your thoughts on Karan Johar?” Ali responded, “We were friends initially, but he’s changed.” When another user asked how he had changed, she explained, “Excellent filmmaker. We were close until Salman stopped me from seeing him and Manish Malhotra, as they were both my best friends. Typical pattern of an abuser is isolation.”
Despite her negative experiences, Ali made it clear that she does not support violence or hatred. She said, “I am anti the death penalty and murder, be it Salman or a stranger on the street. I do not care for Salman; in fact, I can’t stand him, but I do not want him murdered as I am a pacifist and a Gandhi follower.” She concluded with a sentiment of peace, saying, “Idiots have a right to live and access the judicial system.”
After Somy Ali’s Reddit AMA, as she claim her upcoming memoir, seems to reveals more insights about her Bollywood journey and difficult past. Her frank responses have added to the mystery surrounding her relationship with Bollywood’s biggest stars and have left fans eagerly awaiting more insights from her book.
