Payal Kapadia On Not Winning The Golden Globe Awards For All We Imagine As Light

The 82nd Golden Globes Award ceremony was successfully done in full swing, with various filmmakers and creditable artists winning the award for their hardwork and efforts. However, as the nation’s sole director Payal Kapadia made us all proud to reach the nominations for her film “All We Imagine As Light”, it came out as an equal level of disappointment to see that the it could not exclusively bring the trophy home. Now, expressing her views about the same, filmmaker Payal Kapadia herself has exclaimed a thing.

The filmmaker took to Instagram the day after the ceremony to reflect on the event and express gratitude for the journey. The prestigious award ceremony, held in Los Angeles on Sunday, saw Kapadia’s film competing in the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture and Best Director categories. However, the film lost out to France’s Emilia Perez and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, respectively.

After attending the ceremony, Payal shared a picture with the producers of All We Imagine As Light—Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das—before heading to the event. Captioning the post on her Instagram story, she wrote, “We didn’t win anything but had soo much fun.”

While All We Imagine As Light didn’t take home a Golden Globe, the film remains a historic achievement for Indian cinema. It was the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival last year. The story, set in Mumbai, follows the lives of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu. Prabha’s life takes an unexpected turn when her estranged husband sends her a surprising gift, while Anu struggles to find a private space to be with her lover. Featuring performances by Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon, the film is a heartfelt exploration of human connections and urban life.
