Netflix’s Money Shot: The P*rnhub Story Reveals The Dark Reality Behind P*rn Industry

Netflix's Money Shot released on 15 March, Let’s see what we can expect from the documentary .

Netflix documentary Money Shot: The P*rnhub Story under the direction of Suzanne Hillinger first set out with a different goal and title “The Future of P*rn”, although the movies focus soon came to a single website Porn Hub, which is the world’s most famous porn site with more visitors than Netflix itself.

The documentary shows the era of porn in the form of magazines and VHS tapes being watched by teenagers secretly, as time passes porn transitioned from magazines and tapes to unregulated online content where anyone can watch and upload anything including several real rape cases and sexual abuses some even involving children.

The film shows the efforts of those who want to put an end to this website, including activists like Laila Mickelwai who began a multi-million signature petition to shut down the website, journalists like Nicholas Kristof who became renowned for his work on “The Children of P*rnhub”, it also includes many lawyers who try to help victims of the sexual abuse and want their video removed from the website. The documentary shows the story of a nine-year-old girl who was sex trafficked by her adoptive parents and the videos of her sexual abuse were shared on the website many times, Now in her twenties she told Kristof that “P*rnhub became my trafficker” and she thinks that people still watch her videos of her rape.

Director Suzanne told yahoo that “We knew when making this movie that there was going to be a built-in audience for people who use P*rnhub regularly, whether they admit it or not. Or people who are just curious, ‘What is a porn industry documentary on Netflix?”, She further added “I think it felt a great responsibility to tell a really honest and nuanced story to not continue with the oversimplification or sensationalism of porn performers and porn in general – which often happens in movies about the industry. We wanted to kind of lure an audience in and then teach them a few things.”

The documentary also features interviews with some big names in the *orn industry like Siri Dah, Gwen Adora, and Cherie Deville who share their experiences and how they were affected by the backlash in 2020. Suzanne also tried to interview some less popular workers in the industry but was not successful.

The workers of the p*rn industry believe that the war against online porn is just a front that is put on to hide the real motive, which is to ban legal s*x work. The documentary shows how many Christian groups are using this movement to destroy the p*rn industry while hiding behind the “Let’s save the women and save the children” front.

Director Suzanne explained to yahoo that she wanted to show all the sides involved in the matter and she leaves the judgment to the audience.
