Chris Hemsworth starring movie, Extraction 2, filming was wrapped up back in April of this year. And recently, the release date of the sequel to the high-octane action film from 2020 has finally been revealed. The upcoming film is scheduled to release on Netflix in 2023. The first movie was based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks.
Hemsworth starred as Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces operator turned mercenary who takes on a job to rescue the son of a crime lord from gangsters in Bangladesh. While he was able to save the boy, the ending seemed to be the end of Rake’s life, though a trailer from last year’s TUDUM event made it clear that he was going to fight another day in the sequel.
Netflix movie Extraction cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour. Meanwhile, the cast of Extraction 2 is still under wraps but we know through the trailer that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role in the sequel. The synopsis of Extraction 2 reads, “After surviving a massive battle in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tyler Rake returns with serious wounds from the mission. He will be accompanied by his team, ready to take on the next mission.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with Collider in late June of this year, the film’s writer Joe Russo spoke on how different the sequel is from the first film, saying that it “has a different colour schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, and a different tone than the first one. And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story, is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time out.”
According to the outlet, Sam Hargrave, who made his feature film directorial debut with the first film, will return to helm the sequel. Joe Russo will once again pen the script. Joe and his brother Anthony Russo will also be producing the film through their AGBO production company. Thor: Love And Thunder star Chris Hemsworth will also serve as a producer while also starring in the film.
