Rebooted Refreshingly

One shuddered at the thought of Kartik Aryan stepping into Sanjeev Kumar’s shoes. But writer-director Mudassar Aziz reboots the 40-year-old comedy on infidelity with such freshness that it leaves you smiling.

It’s so well updated that ancient notions of a man straying because of a dowdy wife at home get swept out. When straight-laced Abhinav Tyagi alias Chintu weds Vedika, they’ve both had their share of pre-marital experiences. Vedika too has her admirers as a today’s woman with a career of her own.

But the daily humdrum gets a blast of fresh air when super cool Tapasya Singh breezes into Chintu’s life. Out goes the loyal husband and out comes the man looking for excitement.

In this old triangle, the addition of Chintu’s friend Faheem contributes to making it even more hilarious, sometimes even creating complications unwittingly. Mudassar’s tickle-funny situations and dialogues give energy to the triangle. But it would be unthinkable without Aparkshakti Khurana as Faheem balancing it with a perfectly timed performance.

Kartik Aryan brings freshness and naughtiness to Abhinav Tyagi’s character. Bhumi Pednekar as wife Vedika combines sensuality and substance. Ananya Panday as temptress Tapasya Singh is leaps ahead of her Student Of The Year debut and maintains her poise before actors who’ve been around for a while. Aparshakti Khurana steals the scene many a time.

If there’s a bit of disappointment, it’s the music which isn’t anything you take home.
