Mahesh Bhatt’s Daughter Shaheen To Not Let Go Culprits Behind Online Rape Threats And Harassment Henceforth

Shaheen Bhatt posted multiple screenshots of hate messages and threats of rape in a harshly worded series of posts, as she revealed that she would take legal action against these users from now on.

Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter, Shaheen Bhatt, took to Instagram on Monday to reveal that from here on she will not choose to ignore threats of rape, verbal abuse, and hate messages on social media. Shaheen Bhatt posted a screenshot of rape and sexual abuse messages, as well as death threats she has received in the past, in a harshly worded series of posts. Shaheen captioned the post writing, “Does this surprise you? Why? It does not surprise me.”

Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan’s daughter, Shaheen also shared some statistics which claimed that every 15 minutes a woman in India is being raped. She went on to say that this statistic does not shock her either because India, as a country, likes to show people their “aukaad” or “putting them in their place”.

Shaheen added that she was considering bringing this out on social media, but thought to herself that if she wanted to create a safe space for women not to be continuously harassed, she would have to help create it.

Shaheen, a writer by profession, further mentioned action she would take against users who send her threats of violence, abuse, and hate messages online. She announced it’ll be blocked and reported first. Number 2, she said, “I will NOT protect your identity.” And the third one, “I will use all legal recourse available to take action. If you think you can’t be located because you think your account is anonymous, please think again — IP addresses are easily trackable. You are not invisible. Harassment is a crime.”

Shaheen eventually concluded by mentioning Instagram and said, “I should not have to change the way I use a platform if someone is being abusive. They should. Full Stop.”
