Laapata Ladies Beats Kalki 2898 AD & Animal for India’s Oscars 2025 Entry!

It comes out as a huge success for the Kiran Rao film as Laapata Ladies has managed to defeat the blockbuster hits like Kalki 2898 AD, and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal'.

Another big achievement for India as another Bollywood film makes it way to the Oscars. Latest release, ‘Laapata Ladies’ is chosen in the 97th edition of Oscars. The Film Federation of India (FFI) on Monday announced that the Kiran Rao-directorial Laapataa Ladies has made India’s official entry for Oscars 2025. The film faced a strife with 29 other films including Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, and Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion. It is a big achievement for India as Bollywood has once again made its mark on a global level.

The final decision was made by a 13-member select committee with Assamese director Jahnu Barua heading it all. It comes out as a huge success for the Kiran Rao film as Laapata Ladies has managed to defeat the blockbuster hits like Kalki 2898 AD, and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’.

Earlier, Laapata Ladies was released in Japan, after it garnered much love from the Indian audience. Dubbed by Japanese artists, the film saw huge appreciation at Japanese theatre as well. Sharing the news to her instagram family, Kiran Rao wrote, ‘Laapataa Ladies will be found in Japan from October 4, 2024! 🥳👏🏽 We are so excited for our theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku, Japan – arigato gozaimasu!’

In addition to the Bollywood films, the film also competed with other hollwood and regional movies that have performed beautifully at the big screens. Cannes winner All We Imagine As Light was in contention from Hollywood. On the other side, Telugu film Hanu-Man and Malyalam’s award-winning Aatam also featured in the contending list.
