Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the cinema halls and theatres remain shut. Pertaining to the on-going situation many makers are opting for an OTT route to release their movies rather than waiting for everything to go back to normal.
Among the many movies skipping their theatrical release, Janvhi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl will be also be released digitally. Last month, Karan Johar announced that the biopic of the Kargil War Hero, Gunjan Saxena will be releasing on Netflix owing to the coronavirus situation.
A source close to the development has revealed that the makers have taken the decision to keep the cash-flows in the coming rolling, as they were offered a massive amount by Netflix.
Meanwhile, the news is out that the makers of Gunjan Saxena biopic are reportedly aiming for an Independence Day release. Explaining the reason behind choosing Independence Day release the source said that the story of the movie has a patriotic plotline and everyone associated with the films feels that August 15 is the best for the release of the movie.
The idea being August 15 release is to pay tribute to the Indian Air Force, Gunjan Saxena, the first woman to go on combat. A theatrical trailer of the film is being prepared right now and it will be reportedly unveiled within the next 10 days.
The source further mentioned that the makers are contemplating multiple dates for the film’s release, including July 26 that marks the Kargil Diwas. However, it seems unlikely as the production has taken longer than expected due to the lockdown and hence the makers had to delay the film by a couple of weeks.
It is speculated that the trailers of the film will be out on July 26 thereby paying on ode to the soldiers who fought the Kargil war.
Speaking of the film, it also stars Pankaj Tripathi alongside Janhvi Kapoor. His role is pivotal in the movie as he will be essaying the role of Gunjan’s father.
