Zoe Kravitz Reveals Why She Was Rejected From Playing Catwoman In The Dark Knight Rises

The actress has recently claimed that she was rejected from playing Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises because of her skin color.

The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular superhero and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, is currently dominating at the box office. And Kravitz has been receiving high praise for her portrayal of the oppressive villain. Although, she recently revealed that this was her second go-around at the role.

The actress has recently claimed while talking to The Observer that she was rejected from playing Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises for being ‘too urban,’ a decade ago. Kravitz revealed to the outlet, “I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan. I think it was probably a casting director of some kind or a casting director’s assistant.”

The Batman actress recalled, “Being a woman of color and being an actor and being told at that time that I wasn’t able to read because of the color of my skin, and the word urban being thrown around like that, that was what was really hard about that moment.” The Nolan-directed flick ultimately featured Anne Hathaway in the Catwoman role. However, the casting team may be experiencing some regret now that Kravitz finally landed the role ten years later.

During its opening weekend, the likes of Taylor Swift took to social media to heap praise on her performance in the action film. The singer took to her Instagram story on Sunday morning, sharing an in-theater snap of Kravitz as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman. She also tagged Kravitz in her post, calling her the ‘Catwoman of dreams,’ while calling The Batman movie itself, ‘phenomenal.’
