Zendaya Reveals Why Social Media Makes Her ‘Anxious’

The Emmy award-winning actress said she takes time off posting when too overwhelmed, "If I think too much about it, I'm not gonna do it."

The 25-year-old Dune star recently opened up about her relationship with social media. Zendaya said taking time away from posting on Twitter and Instagram helps her keep her mental health in check because she can get easily anxious or ‘overthink’ things when she spends too much time online.

“I was always a shy kid. I would find being on social media would kind of make me anxious, or I would start to overthink a little too much,” she told People In 10 for their Brave Together series. Zendaya also said that her fans understand because “they want me to be happy and exist beyond social media.”

Meanwhile, the Euphoria star earlier said that her decision to take a break from social media earlier this year has helped her stop feeling so ‘overwhelmed.’ She said, “I haven’t been posting, and my fans probably hate it, which I understand. But I get too overwhelmed with having to post things, and if I think too much about it, I’m not gonna do it. It’s not worth it.” However, despite 100 million followers on Instagram, Zendaya is determined to simply do what she loves, rather than giving in to the pressure and expectations of her fans. She further added, “I’d rather do what I love and then post when I have a project to promote.”

Previously, according to a report by E! Online, in an interview with The HFPA in Conversation podcast, the former Disney star revealed that she wants to make sure that her social media handle stays authentic. The Emmy award-winning actor (zendaya emmys) stated that she is very particular about her Instagram and nobody else can have access to it other than her. She also said that it is important, to be honest on social media too. However, Zendaya also described that she limits her time on social media by making it a rule not to post every day.

Meanwhile, zendaya also praised her family for helping her maintain a healthy mentality in the face of constant attention from fans and media. However, zendaya recently hailed her Dune co-star Timothee Chalamet, describing the actor as ‘a good friend to have.’ The actress appears alongside Timothee in the new sci-fi epic, and Zendaya revealed how much she values his friendship. She also admitted that she appreciates having someone who can relate to her everyday concerns. In an interview with British Vogue, she told, “He’s obviously a very talented actor, but just a wonderful person and a good friend to have.” Zendaya added, “Especially in this industry, it’s nice to have other people who are going through it too and that you can talk to.”

Recently, the pals made headlines while taking a friendship quiz for BuzzFeed News alongside Chalamet, the Dune co-stars answered rapid-fire questions to test how well they really know each other. Both acing questions on their birthdays, middle names, and favorite snacks, the 25-year-old actor didn’t skip a beat when asked who his gal pal has feelings for. “Their biggest celebrity crush?” Chalamet read the question. “Easy, Tom Holland!” (zendaya and tom holland) he replied, prompting Zendaya, 25, to burst into giggles.
