The premiere ended in a shocking moment when young Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) ate the frozen ear of her dead best friend Jackie (she played Ella Purnell, who returns in hallucination form). Shauna has been guarding Jackie’s body for over two months, much to the concern of her teammates who have been stranded in the wilderness since their plane crashed in the 1996 timeline. Shauna agrees to move on and they decide to cremate Jackie’s body, but the desert had other ideas.
“We called it the drunken revelry and the Party. We wanted it to have some kind of badass celebration feel,” co-creator Ashley Lyle tells The Hollywood Reporter. And we didn’t feel like we could win them over in season one and take them from point A to point B, but I think winter allowed us to delve into the pits of their despair and despair, so we could justify. It allowed us to open up the rest of the season to stories that might go beyond that point,” the writer said. (Hollywood Reporter)
