One Direction first appeared on the seventh season of The X Factor, which aired on ITV at the end of 2010. While Matt Cardle won the singing competition, One Direction became one of the most successful bands ever to come out of the former ITV programme. The boyband went on to become one of the best-selling boybands of all time, topping the charts worldwide.
1D is also the first group in the US Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one. However, this year marks the 12 years of the famous band One Direction, which includes members, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. The group was created by X Factor judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger.
However, to celebrate the 12th anniversary of One Direction, the former ITV show has shared a never-seen-before video revealing how the panel came to the decision of putting five solo singers in a group. In the clip, which was shared on Twitter, the judges were looking through several headshots of wannabe popstars and decided to create two groups, a boyband and a girl band, from the hopefuls.
In the clip, which was first filmed back in 2010 following the X Factor’s boot camp stages, Simon can be deliberating over which acts should advance to judges’ houses. Taking a picture of Niall Horan, he says, “He should be in the group. I’m not saying we’re going to do it, but I’d like to imagine it.” The judges then went through the profiles of various singers, putting Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan in one group.
Marking the 12th birthday of the creation, The X Factor penned to the Twitter clip, “When you’ve waited TWELVE YEARS to find out exactly how One Direction was formed! FINALLY, here’s how.” With several hits, 1D released five chart-topping albums and toured the world with their addictive tunes. However, things went other ways when Zayn Malik heartbreakingly quit the band in 2015. However, the remaining One Direction members don’t want to break the hearts of millions of fans so they released Made in the A.M.
One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus with the promise to return in 18 months. However, now it’s been more than five years since the boyband performed together as 1D. Meanwhile, all five members embarked on successful solo careers, with Harry Styles even winning himself a Grammy. However, Directioners are still hopeful for a One Direction reunion!
