Here’s Why Chris Rock Turned Down Hosting 2022 Emmys

Chris Rock has reportedly turned down the offer to host Television's biggest night, the 2022 Emmys Award.

Chris Rock turned down the offer to host the 2022 Emmy Awards. The comedian, who hosted Oscars 2022, was approached to host this year’s Emmys but he turned down the job. “He’s in the middle of his tour and is preparing for the taping of his comedy special, which will be taping this fall,” the source revealed to Entertainment Tonight.

The source also shared to the outlet that Rock is ‘over’ Hollywood and is hoping to travel and lay low after his comedy tour. Television’s biggest night is set to air on September 12 and the ceremony will be broadcast from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. While there have been reports that Rock denying the gig could lead to the awards show going hostless, a rep for the TV Academy tells ET that is inaccurate. Going hostless is not being considered at this time, the rep added.

Last award show that Chris Rock has been hosted was 2022 Academy Awards. However, things didn’t went as scripted as many will remember it was at the 2022 Academy Awards that Will Smith slapped Rock in the face after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith before presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature. During the Oscars 2022, Rock joked, “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.”

Moments later, Smith walked onto the stage and gave Rock an open-handed slap on his cheek. Smith then walked offstage and cursed at Rock from his seat, yelling, “Leave my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.” Following the shocking ceremony, Smith released a statement apologizing to Rock and to the Academy for his actions. Moreover, Will was barred from attending any Academy events, in person or digitally, for a decade, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Many of Will Smith’s big project has been either put on hold or cancelled. The actor was also visited India to meet Sadhguru. Men In Black star is also currently seeking therapy. Chris, who declined to seek charges that night, has yet to address the issue formally. During several stops on his stand-up tour, he has made casual jokes about the slap.
