American rapper Travis Scott was detained in Paris early Friday morning following an altercation with his bodyguard, according to French authorities. The police were summoned to the George V luxury hotel at 5 a.m. on Thursday to intervene. Scott was arrested for violence against another person, as reported by a police spokesperson.
Travis Scott, who was in Paris for the Olympic Games, attended the men’s basketball semi-final on Thursday, where the United States defeated Serbia. However, his visit took a turn when he was arrested for “violence against a security guard,” as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office later on Friday.
The incident occurred when a security guard intervened in a confrontation between Scott and his bodyguard. According to a spokesperson from the prosecutor’s office, the guard was attempting to break up the altercation when the violence occurred. An investigation into the matter has since been launched.
Scott’s representative told CNN, “We are in direct communication with the local Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and will provide updates when appropriate,”
Travis Scott, whose legal name is Jacques Bermon Webster, had just concluded the European leg of his Circus Maximus tour in Lisbon before his arrest in Paris. The tour included performances across North America and Europe, notably at Tottenham Hotspur’s 62,000-seat stadium in London. Scott, a 10-time Grammy nominee for his 2023 album Utopia, has also had legal issues.
In June, he was arrested in Miami-Dade County on charges of trespassing and disorderly intoxication. He is known for his intense live shows, which have occasionally led to incidents, including the tragic Astroworld Festival in 2021 that resulted in 10 deaths. While the Houston District Attorney cleared him of criminal charges related to the festival, he still faces multiple civil lawsuits from the victims’ families.
