Tom Holland Reveals He Will Star As Fred Astaire In An Upcoming Sony Film

Tom Holland will play the iconic actor-singer-dancer in an upcoming film for Sony.

A few weeks left to Tom Holland’s new movie Spider-Man: No Way Home hitting theaters, and he has confirmed his next project. The actor was promoting the superhero movie in London when he was asked about rumors that he was playing Fred Astaire.

Meanwhile, Holland confirmed that he is playing Fred Astaire he will play the iconic actor-singer-dancer in an upcoming film for Sony. Spider-Man franchise star said, “Oh I am playing Fred Astaire, yeah,” Holland confirmed to reporters at an event for Spider-Man: No Way Home in London on Sunday. “The script came in a week ago,” Holland told reporters, though he added, “I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me.”

However, Holland later added that he knows producer Amy Pascal has the script, adding that she, ‘FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath,’ with a laugh. He added that they had, “a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire,” he confirmed. The news comes a few weeks after Spider-Man producer and former Sony chief Amy Pascal told GQ that she wanted Holland for the role in a profile of the actor.

It was first mentioned that Holland might be playing Fred Astaire in a November GQ profile, proclaiming Holland as the ‘superhero of the year.’ Meanwhile, it is unclear who is penning the project, but Pascal has said she had her eye on Holland for the role. “There are very few actors working now who are versatile in the way that he is,” she told GQ last month. “And he’s the hardest-working person that I know.”

For unversed, Astaire is considered to be the greatest dancer in film history, performing on film, television, and on the Broadway stage in a career spanning just over 75 years. He is best known for his musicals with his on-screen partner Ginger Rogers, which also responsible for revolutionizing how dancing was captured on film.

However, no writer or director has been confirmed for the Fred Astaire biopic, nor has the film’s title at this time. This is actually the second Fred Astaire biopic to be happening, with another project in the works at Amazon starring Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley as Astaire and Rogers, with that project focusing on their successful partnership.
