You all have probably woken up to news of how major A lister Hollywood celebs, industry leader and majority of the globally prominent TV giants have come together to give severe backlash and are constantly slamming Golden Globe Awards which is being cited as a controversial awards show wherein many are also distancing themselves from it effectively and now latest update in same is that Tom Cruise and Scarlett revolt against the Golden Globe awards.
The awards panel and show has been facing a lot of wrath and ire from majority of esteemed and globally iconic Hollywood celebs for their archaic ways and also in lieu of racism and color discrimination for non-inclusion of people of color in their 87 voting members panel claiming that these people have a problem with inclusion of diversity right from the start and as a befitting reply to it, Tom Cruise and Scarlett revolt against the Golden Globe awards.
This is indeed an surprising news scoop of the day that apart from slamming the Golden Globes for non-inclusion of Black people in their voting panel, some celebs are also actively returning their won awards to the awards body wherein both Tom Cruise and Scarlett revolt against the Golden Globe awards.
This all exactly started when a collective of several industry bodies and many prominent A listers unitedly took a stand against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which is a small group of international journalists who vote on the Golden Globe awards, after an exposé disclosed and revealed their huge highlighted failings.
Earlier this year itself, the esteemed leading news daily in US found out that the HFPA has always had longstanding issues and problems with inclusion of diversity also mentioning that there are absolutely no black members amongst its 87 voting members, a point that after receiving heavy backlash the HFPA finally realising its folly has vowed to change.
Following this backlash, the TV giant NBC opened up on not broadcasting the Golden Globes in 2022 with majority global giants like Netflix, Amazon and Warner Media also distancing themselves from awards.
In their official statement for same, NBC said, “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organisation executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023”.
In response, the HFPA released a detailed timeline of proposed changes wherein their official statement read: “Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly – and as thoughtfully – as possible remains the top priority for our organisation. We invite our partners in the industry to the table to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, both in our organisation as well as within the industry at large”.
After the fallout, Golden Globes winner Tom Cruise actively returned his three awards won for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, whereas Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo also slammed HPPA for their lack of diversity and action and speaking up on same, Scarlett Johansson said, “Unless there is necessary fundamental reform within the organisation, I believe it is time that we take a step back from the HFPA”.
