Director Todd Phillips Confirms Joker 2 With Joaquin Phoenix, Reveals Title

The first Joker movie was both a commercial and critical success when it was released back in 2019.

Joker is returning to win the hearts of people with madness! Todd Phillips, who directed Joker, has recently shared a photo of his star Joaquin Phoenix reading the script for the Joker 2. The director’s photo of Phoenix showed the Walk the Line star reading the script while sitting on a comfortable-looking couch. The star wore pinstripe pants, a black t-shirt and dark sunglasses. His thinning hair was combed over to the right and his white beard was groomed into a well-kept, but still bushy, style.

Joaquin Phoenix reads through the script for the highly-anticipated sequel. Phillips also shared a picture of the script’s cover, red with black lettering on it, revealing the upcoming movie title as ‘Joker 2: Folie à Deux.’ ‘Folie à deux,’ is a French phrase literally meaning ‘shared madness.’ It’s used to describe a delusion shared by two people in close proximity. However, the 8 Mile writer Scott Silver co-wrote the script alongside Phillips.

The first Joker movie was both a commercial and critical success when it was released back in 2019. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie grossed over $1 billion on a budget of just $55 million. Joker became the first rated R movie to make over a billion dollars at the box office. In addition to its staggering box office figures, Joker was also a critical success taking home a number of nominations and trophies.

The movie was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and took home two of the coveted trophies. Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir won the award for Best Original Score. For unversed, Joker: The Dark Knight follows a forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck, who seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City.

Arthur wears two masks, the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the impression he projects in a hopeless attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. he was isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as The Joker.
