Billie Eilish is one of the most popular celebrities on Instagram. And the singer has two of the top 10 Most Liked Instagram photos of 2021, taking the fourth spot with her blonde hair reveal and landing in sixth place on the list for her provocative Vogue photoshoot.
Meanwhile, soccer sensation Lionel Messi made on the list three times. Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the number one spot for another year in a row. The popular athlete gained the top spot with a post announcing his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez’s pregnancy with twins. The post received 32.3 million likes. Ronaldo captioned the post, “Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love – we can’t wait to meet you.”
Ariana Grande was not far behind him. Her stunning wedding photos with Dalton Gomez grabbed second place with 26.7 million likes. The star simply captioned her post with her wedding date, writing, ‘5.15.21’ and a white heart emoji. The series of six pictures show the happy bride kissing her groom as well as Grande’s stunning white gown.
Beauty mogul Kylie Jenner, who made the list four times in the previous year, came in third with 24.6 million likes for her second pregnancy announcement with rapper Travis Scott, posted on September 8. Eilish also made the list with her provocative Vogue photoshoot, where she sports a sexy Burberry corset underneath an elegant tan trench coat. The snap, posted on May 2, quickly accumulated 22.1 million likes.
This year, athletes seemed to be quite popular with other soccer phenomena, Lionel Messi landing on the list three times, and taking the fifth, seventh, and eighth spots. The first post was of Messi after signing with Paris Saint-Germain F.C. posted on August 11. The portrait brought in 22.1 million likes. The other was a photo of the star athlete with the Copa América trophy, posted on July 11, with 22 million likes. While the eighth spots was his post announcing his departure from Barcelona during a press conference. The photo was posted on August 8 and received 21.2 million likes.
The ninth, and perhaps most surprising winner, was Mermaid Montana, known as the Iron Shore Mermaid. The post is actually a video of the mermaid waving to a little girl through the aquarium glass. The adorable video went up on Instagram on August 18 and got 20.2 million likes.
However, Tom Holland came in last place on the list with his birthday tribute to girlfriend Zendaya on September 1. The Spider-Man star posted a photo in his iconic costume with the Euphoria actress behind him, taking the photo, in real life. The post garnered 19.6 million likes. “My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your up xxx,” the actor captioned the adorable snap.
