The White Lotus Creators Teases Season 3

The White Lotus first premiered on July 11, 2021, and received critical acclamation and high ratings.

The White Lotus has recently wrapped up filming its season 2. And the hit HBO comedy-drama series’ creator Mike White teased season three, which was renewed last month, during a post-finale interview clip on HBO Max. While the first season was set in Hawaii and the second season took place in Sicily, White more than hinted that the next season may take place somewhere in Asia.

For the unversed, the show follows the guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain, whose stay is affected by their various dysfunctions. However, the creator shared, “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is s*x.”

He added, “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.” It was revealed during the season two finale that Jennifer Coolidge’s character, Tanya McQuoid, had died. But, White hasn’t completely closed the door on her making a return. The writer, actor, producer, and director went on to elaborate on Tanya’s death and what it all means.

While talking about Tanya’s character, the writer shared, “Not that I really wanted to kill Tanya because I love her as a character and obviously love Jennifer, but I just felt like, we’re going to Italy, she’s such a diva, a larger than life female archetype, it felt like we could devise our own operatic conclusion to Tanya’s life and her story.”
