The Weeknd Teases At New Song For ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’

Avatar producer Jon Landau also tweeted a photo of himself with The Weeknd.

The Weeknd recently revealed that he contributed a new song to the Avatar: The Way Of Water soundtrack. Four-time Grammy winner took to his social media and shared a 12-second clip of a choral melody with battle drums. Alongside the teaser, the singer simply captioned the teaser with the highly-anticipated sequel’s release date, ‘12.16.22.’

Meanwhile, on the same day, Avatar producer Jon Landau tweeted a photo of himself with The Weeknd. Alongside the photo, the producer penned in the caption, ‘As the Na’vi say, “Zola’u nìprrte’ soaiane Avatar”… Welcome to the Avatar family.’ The Weeknd is a well-known singer and received several accolades for his great work. Back in 2016, the Creepin’ crooner won the Grammy for best R&B performance and received an Oscar nomination for best original song for his track Earned It off the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

The Weeknd was last seen performing at SoFi Stadium on November 26, two months after tearfully cutting his September 3 concert short due to vocal problems mid-performance. The Weeknd is also set to co-create and star as self-help guru aka cult leader Tedros in the six-episode drama The Idol. The LA-set drama also stars Lily-Rose Depp and Suzanna Son.

The Idol cast also includes Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria. The Idol is scheduled to premiere next year on HBO.

Meanwhile, according to the Avatar: The Way Of Water plot synopsis, ‘Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora.’ The synopsis continues, ‘Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet.’ Avatar 2 is set for release on Friday, December 16. However, other Avatar sequels are set to release on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.
