Bringing in a surprising turn to the upcoming project, Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in a standalone Star Wars movie which is helmed by none other than Dhawn Levy who is known for his last blockbuster work on Deadpool & Wolverine and The Adam Project. The massive project which has been in development since 2022 is set to introduce fresh storytelling to the galaxy far, far away. While plot details are tightly guarded, its confirmed that the film won’t connect to The Skywalker Saga, focusing instead on new characters and narratives within the beloved universe.
Shawn Levy has been collaborating with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, who is a longtime associate to him on crafting the script. The director is also producing the movie under his 21 Laps banner, alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleem Kennedy. If Ryan finalizes his deal, production could kick off as early as this fall, signaling the start of a new chapter for Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy in the Star Wars galaxy.

This untitled Star Wars movie marks a significant shift from the franchise’s tradition of casting rising stars or lesser-known actors. While past trilogies turned performers like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley into household names, meanwhile Ryan Gosling’s casting would bring a Hollywood A-lister into the fold, offering a fresh perspective.
Interestingly, rumours linked Ryan to the Star Wars universe years ago but nothing materialized. His involvement now could bring a mix of star power and nuanced acting to the highly-anticipated project.
Shawn Levy’s direction and Jonathan Trooper’s writing suggest a blend of action, drama and and perhaps a touch of humor—elements both are known for. Whether Jedi, Sith, or something entirely different, this film is bound to add a unique dimension to Star Wars lore.
Stay tuned as more details emerge about this exciting collaboration between Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy.
