Spencer Grammer And Ajay Naidu Lead New Comedy Pilot, ‘Books’

Spencer Grammer and Ajay Naidu star in Books, a quirky comedy pilot about saving a bookstore. With its relatable humor and fresh premise, the series promises to be a unique TV experience.

Spencer Grammer and Ajay Naidu are teaming up for Books, an independent TV comedy pilot that wrapped filming this week at Market Block Books in Troy, New York. The series follows Wren Wild (Grammer), a cancelled author, as she leads an eccentric team determined to save their beloved bookstore. Naidu plays her silent partner, Murry, a former book agent clueless about running a store.

The pilot, created by director Micah Khan (The Zombie Wedding), producer Victoria Diana, and cinematographer Adam Muro, is a collaborative effort. Executive producers Tim Cahill, Kristina Libby, and Patrick Regan of 7th Draft Productions aim to blend humor with a love for literature. The cast also includes Deepti Menon, Ulisses Gonsalves, Melanie Brook, and Henry Temple.

Cahill expressed his vision for the show, saying, “Books is like a modern-day Cheers or Friends, set in a space that feels like home. It’s about creating a cast of characters viewers want to spend time with.” Libby added, “This show isn’t just about comedy; it’s a way to connect audiences with books. We hope it encourages reading and boosts book sales, becoming a new tastemaker in the literary world.”

Spencer Grammer and the team behind Books have high hopes as the pilot prepares to be shopped to networks and streamers in the New Year. With a unique premise and strong cast, they aim to bring something fresh to the small screen.

Grammer is repped by Untitled Entertainment, while Naidu is with CornerStone Talent. Director Khan is managed by Candice Kreinbrink at ESE Management.
