Simone Ashley’s character, Kathani “Kate” Sharma, married Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) at the end of Season 2 of the Netflix series, and Ashley is hopeful that the couple will grow their family in the upcoming edition. Ashley told IMDb, “I’m excited to see Kate become viscountess and head of the household. I think she has much to learn from Anthony. They’ll be two little partners. I’d love to see them have a baby, to put it simply. Maybe that will happen, maybe it won’t.”
Season 3 of the Regency-era sitcom will centre on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s love story, but that doesn’t mean the fan-favourite couple, called ‘Kathony,’ will fade into the background. Kate and Anthony had four children in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books, so it’s possible that viewers will see them take on the role of parents at some time during the show’s run. Season 2 of the show takes a different, slow strategy to develop Anthony and Kate’s romance.
As the season begins, Anthony has his eye on Kate’s younger sister, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), the season’s freshly minted ‘diamond,’ because, as he remarks immediately away, she “ticks all the boxes.” But it’s evident by the end of the season that he’ll never be able to get out of Kate’s clutches. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley shared that playing the developing tension between Anthony and Kate over the season allowed them to explore other parts of their characters’ roller-coaster relationship.
Ashley said, “I think it allowed us as actors to just dive into the character development and I think tension makes us more invested in what’s going to happen and I think all the fireworks are there and when it doesn’t happen, it’s very [frustrating]. So yeah, I was down for it. I was running with it.” Bailey commented, “Psychologically, it’s complicated with these two characters. There’s a lot they needed to overcome in order to get there and there are different ways in which it’s psychologically rich.”
The actress added, “And there’s so much. It’s great when they were naked in front of each other psychologically before they were physical.” This season, Bailey and Ashley had several memorable sequences, many of which were reproduced directly from Quinn’s novel, such as the legendary Pall Mall tournament and Kate’s bee bite in the garden. When it came time to shoot Anthony and Kate’s first s*x scene in episode 7, the performers said it was done with care and deliberation.
