On Friday, the ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ singer took to Instagram and shared a few images of herself and the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer sitting in amusing poses. Gomez is beaming in the first snap as she wraps her arm around Swift, who is holding three fingers to indicate Selena’s 30th birthday.
Gomez can’t stop laughing in the second snap, while Swift looks to take a selfie and give the camera a thumbs up. “30, nerdy and worthy,” Gomez captioned the photo, which looks to be a parody of the “13 Going On 30” tagline “30, flirty and thriving.” Gomez also took to her Instagram Story to express gratitude to the innumerable followers who showered her with love and compassion on her special day. “Thank you all so much for all the bday love!!” she stated in her Story.
She also stated that her “biggest wish is for donations to the Rare Impact Fund to support mental health,” which is an initiative she started as part of her Rare Beauty’s focus on mental health and self-acceptance. “Together we can reduce the stigma associated with mental health and increase access to resources,” she continued on her Instagram story. “Love you guys so much!” Gomez felt the love on her birthday, and the fact that she celebrated with her BFF of nearly two decades hyped up their respective fan bases even more.
Fans flocked to social media to post nostalgic images of the besties from their childhood. One supporter tweeted, “30 years Selena Gomez and 32 years Taylor swift. they grew up very fast.” Another admirer wrote, “Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are the best friendship there is.” It’s not known where Gomez and Swift celebrated, although Gomez resides in Los Angeles, while Swift made a surprise visit to HAIM’s show at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday.
It’s very feasible that she performed there and then flew back to the United States to be with her best friend. Swift and Gomez go long back, and they’re closer than they look. Gomez explained why they have such a deep relationship in a January 2020 interview for the cover of WSJ. Magazine’s annual Talents and Legends edition. “There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do,” Gomez explained at the time.
“She has shown up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family.” The singer continued, “It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”
