After a long wait of nearly 12 years, the iconic horror-comedy franchise is making its comeback! The much-anticipated Scary Movie 6 release date has finally been announced. Mark your calendars for June 12, 2026. This announcement came with an intriguing Instagram video from the filmmakers, reading “A Scary Date 6/12/26” with the caption, “Mark your calendars…”
And needless to say, the comments section was buzzing with excitement. Fans couldn’t hold back their enthusiasm, with one saying, “Getting front-row tickets!” and another exclaiming, “Omg this is going to be wild!”
This marks the franchise’s revival under the original creators, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, who are reuniting to pen the script. Paramount Pictures and Miramax will bring the project to life with Rick Alvarez also attached as a producer. The Wayans brothers first launched the Scary Movie series back in 2000, which broke records for an R-rated horror comedy, raking in $42.5 million in its opening weekend. The films became known for their hilarious takes on popular horror tropes, evolving over the years to parody everything from The Ring to Paranormal Activity.

What’s particularly exciting about this reboot is its timing. The new Scary Movie will release just months after Scream VII, the series that originally inspired the franchise. While Scary Movie initially focused on spoofing Scream in its first film, it later evolved into a broader parody of horror hits. It’ll be interesting to see how the new film takes on modern horror, especially with recent movies like Terrifier and Midsommar making waves in the genre.
As of now, there’s no word on the cast or director for the sixth installment. Fans are eager to see whether Anna Faris and Regina Hall might return after skipping Scary Movie 5, but nothing has been confirmed. Regardless, the Wayans brothers’ involvement is sure to draw excitement and curiosity about how they’ll adapt their signature humour for today’s horror trends.
