Hollywood star Reynolds on Thursday addressed his Indian fans ahead of the release of Free Guy in the country. He said that the film is inspired by a classic Bollywood movie. Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy stars Reynolds as a bank teller who later discovers that he is a background character in an open-world video game called Free City that will soon go offline. The adventure comedy is slated to release in the country on September 17 in English and Hindi.
The video, posted by 20th Century Studios India on its YouTube page, opened with Ryan describing the film. He drew a parallel line between Free Guy and the tropes of Hindi films, with a classic hero-heroine-villain spin, filled with action and music.
“Hello, India. My new movie Free Guy has a guy named ‘Guy’ who is quite the Romeo, a girl who is out of his league, a crazy villain, some insane action and, of course, dancing,” he said with a sneak peeks of Ryan and Jodie Comer from the movie playing on the screen.
“A crazy villain, some insane action and, of course, dancing,” he continued. Meanwhile, the video introduced Taika Waititi as the baddie, a car flying as buildings behind him collapsed and a few characters dancing in the middle of the road. “If you are wondering if Hollywood is just mimicking Bollywood now, well, the answer is yes. We have no shame. No shame at all,” the 44-year-old actor mentioned in the video.
Deadpool star has earlier mentioned that he is a fan of Indian culture and Indian cinema. He said, “Oh my god. I do love Indian culture and films. I think there is no greater contribution to cinema than from India. When I was a kid I got to see a couple of (movies) from India. I would love to visit India and meet my fans.”
Recently, Ryan also had a talk on Twitter with Ranveer Singh. The Bollywood actor had dubbed for Deadpool in the Hindi version of Deadpool 2 and had shared the trailer. Ranveer tweeted, “Astonishing how effectively I’ve managed to out-crass my Canadian counterpart @VancityReynolds. Never realized how fulfilling & rewarding foul Hindi language can be!”
“Well if I tried to curse in Hindi, pretty sure there would be an international incident,” Ryan replied by retweeting his tweet.
Free Guy revolves around a bank teller, played by Ryan, who realizes that he is just a supporting character of the video game. When he learns that his world is shutting down, he decides to become the hero and save the day. Free Guy also features Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi.
Ryan Reynolds will next appear in the upcoming Netflix special, Red Notice along with Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot. The movie is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. The movie is expected to release 12th November 2021 on the online streaming platform
