The world cinema’s renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s next project has been officially announced, putting an end to months of speculation. Universal Pictures revealed that Christopher will bring Homer’s ancient Greek epic The Odyssey to life in a new and groundbreaking cinematic experience. Slated to release on July 17, 2026 this film is described as “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology” making it the first adaptation of Homer’s saga to grace IMAX screens.
The movie will follow the legendary journey of Odysseus, the hero navigating challenges return home after the Trojan War. With a cast that includes Hollywood’s notable stars like Matt Damon, TOm Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron through which Nolan promises star-studded retelling of the foundational story.
Written and directed by Christopher, the film is produced in collaboration with Emma Thomas through their Syncopy banner. Known for blending intricate narratives with cutting-edge technology, the filmmaker has reportedly been working on advanced IMAX techniques to enhance the storytelling experience.
