Dalyce Curry, a retired Hollywood actress also known as Momma D, tragically died in the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. The 95-year-old was found dead after her home in Altadena was consumed by the fire. Opening up for the first time after her devastating passing, her granddaughter Dalyce Kelley shared the heartbreaking news in an interview with NBC News, expressing the profound grief their family is facing. “Our souls are broken, we are not holding up well. We are destroyed! It is so hard to look at all of these devastations and wonder what her last moments were. She didn’t deserve this. We are hurting!” Kelley said tearfully.

Kelley explained that her grandmother was in good health at the time of the fire. “She didn’t have Alzheimer’s, she was strong and in good health and didn’t need to live with her family. She will be forever missed,” Kelley said.

Dalyce Curry had a remarkable career in Hollywood, appearing in iconic films like The Blues Brothers, The 10 Commandments and Lady Sings the Blues. Despite being 95, her granddaughter shared that Dalyce Curry remained very active and independent. “You would not think she was 95,” her other granddaughter, Loree Beamer-Wilkinson, told ABC7.

Kelley last saw her grandmother on January 7, just hours before the fires erupted in the Pacific Palisades. The following morning, Kelley rushed to the area, only to find that her grandmother’s property had been entirely destroyed. “Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac,” Kelley shared, describing the devastation when she arrived at the site on January 10.

Sadly, Dalyce Curry’s remains were confirmed by the coroner on January 12. As of now, at least 24 deaths have been reported in the Los Angeles area due to the wildfires.
