As per the reports from the Hollywood Reporter, the famous director Quentin Tarantino is about to work on his final movie called “The Movie Critic”. According to the source Quentin has already written a script and plans to start filming it this fall, not much is known about the movie but we know that the movie will be set in late 1970s Los Angeles and will be led by a female actress. If we count Kill Bill Vol 1 and Vol 2 this will be his 10th movie.
“The Movie Critic” inspired by Pauline Kael?
Although the details of the movie are kept a secret, we do know that it will have a female lead and will be showing the 1970s Los Angeles. Due to the timeframe, there are speculations that the movie will be based on Pauline Kael. Pauline was one of the most well-known critic of that time who passed away in 2001, she worked for Paramount and got into many fights with the filmmakers as a critic. Quentin was inspired by her work and he even published Cinema Speculation in 2022 which is a collection of essays by Pauline, knowing this we can say that the movie might be based on Pauline.
Will “The Movie Critic” be Quentin’s final movie
Quentin always emphasized retiring by the age of 60 as he only has a limited number of films in him, The Movie Critic might be his final movie as he already made 9 movies and has maintained in many interviews that he only wants to make 10 movies by the time he plans to retire. In an interview with Playboy in 2012 he explained as to why he wanted to retire by the age of 60. He said that most directors give the worst movies of their careers as age also affects them. He does not want to suffer the same fate of having his last movie called the worst movie of his career and wants to avoid being a laughing stock. In a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter Quentin said “When directors get out-of-date, it’s not pretty”. Although Quentin is planning to retire it does not mean that he will settle down he plans to work on short series and plays.
