Priyanka Chopra has shifted to the United States in recent years. The actress left a fledgling Bollywood career to try her luck in the west and has since made a name for herself in Hollywood. However, this was not the first time in her life that the actress moved to the United States. As a child, Priyanka spent a few years in the US studying before eventually returning to India.

In a recent interaction, Priyanka opened up about her formative years and the initial culture shock of moving to the United States. She also spoke about all the tactics she used to try to fit in when she came to the US as a 12-year-old immigrant.
Priyanka first moved to the United States at the age of 12, shortly after the birth of her brother Siddharth. Her mother Madhu sent her to her aunt and she had to get used to a new school. Speaking of those early years on Dex Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Priyanka said, “I’ve grown up (within a year) American hormones got me. My hair grew, and my shape grew. I spoke differently, I dressed differently, and my jokes were different. I tried a new accent every week to fit in.”
When the host said it worked on Priyanka, the actress disagreed. “It wasn’t because I left the United States. I was like f*** you,” she said, adding, “I remember being told so many times, ‘Be invisible, don’t draw attention,’ while in India my mother told me otherwise.”Find your feet, find your voice,” she used to say since she was five years old.

My father would also encourage my opinion. And here everyone had to be invisible to get a job so people would notice them for their skills and not their looks. The actress said the sacrifices that immigrants from her parents’ generation made in the United States allowed her generation to speak out more.
Priyanka is preparing to launch two of her international projects this year. First up is the Russo brothers’ ambitious sci-fi series Citadel, which also stars Richard Madden. It will start streaming on Prime Video on April 28th. She will also star in Love Again, a romantic comedy starring Sam Heughan.
