Penn Badgley On ‘You’ Season 4: ‘We’re Shifting The Genre Slightly’

While fans are super excited about season four of Netflix’s one of the most viewed series, ‘You,’ Penn Badgley gave a little insight on how the next season might be.

The next season of the Netflix series shifts the action to Europe, but Joe Goldberg will not be wandering the cobblestone streets of Paris, as hinted at in the third season finale. He will instead take his deadly ways to London, though there will still be some action in the City of Lights. Badgley stated to Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith during a recent interview promoting his new Stitcher podcast, Podcrushed, that the series relocated to a different European location for the upcoming season for a very practical reason.

Badgley shared that they have already finished filming four episodes and revealed, “To be real, it’s cheaper.” While Badgley did not reveal anything about Season 4, he did express hope that Joe’s manner and character will alter as a result of the change of environment. “He would sure hope so,” he remarked when asked if Joe may feel more unfettered in London than in America. Joe added, “But the problem is in him, it’s not so much outside of him so he’s trying to change. He is always trying… failing trying.”

He also shared that the series will remain the same overall even if it feels a little different. “The tone is similar but it’s shifting in that there is a different format. We’re using a different format,” he explained. “It’s almost like we’re shifting the genre slightly. And I think it works.” “Nothing was the same,” Badgley said of You deviating from Caroline Kepnes’ series of books, and the writer of the book and the creators of the show, they’ve always known starting from the same place, from the same point, Joe of the books, if you recreated him faithfully, it would be tough to watch.

It would be really tough to watch.” When Badgley isn’t playing Joe Goldberg on You or exploring London, he’s busy with his podcast, Podcrushed, where he and co-hosts Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari discuss the heartbreak, anxiety, and self-discovery of living life as a teenager. However, You season 3 ends with a cliffhanger after Joe moved to Paris after faking his own death. While we all thought You season 4 would take place in Paris, it looks like he has another city in mind… London (as shared on social media).
