Patrick J. Adams Finally Opens Up On Leaving ‘Suits’ – Here’s Why!

Patrick J. Adams reflects on leaving Suits, sharing how quitting alcohol and focusing on family changed his life.

Actor Patrick J. Adams has opened up about why he decided to leave the popular TV show Suits after seven seasons. Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, Adams shared that mental health struggles and drinking too much made him realize it was time to step away. “The only reason to stay was money, and I never regretted leaving,” he admitted.

During Season 7 of Suits, Adams said he faced serious challenges with his mental health. “I wasn’t taking good care of myself and was drinking too much,” he said. This took a toll on his relationships and his role as a father. “I didn’t want to be that dad who wasn’t present,” he explained.

Adams said that quitting alcohol changed his life. “The best thing I ever did was stop drinking,” he shared. This decision helped him work on his health, his marriage, and being a better father.

When deciding not to return for Season 8, Adams talked with his mom, who advised him against staying just for the money. He agreed, saying, “It was the right thing for my marriage.” While he sometimes wonders about the money his co-star Gabriel Macht earned in the last two seasons, Adams said he has no regrets about leaving.

These days, Adams is focused on his family and new projects. He also hosts a podcast with Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty, where they rewatch episodes and reflect on the show’s success.

With Suits recently gaining a new wave of fans on Netflix, Adams said he feels grateful for the experience. “I’m filled with compassion for myself and gratitude for everything the show brought into my life,” he said. His reflections show how much he’s grown, both personally and professionally, since his time on the show.
