Parker Finn “Smile” Filmmaker Signs First-Look Deal With Paramount

Parker Finn’s success with the movie “Smile” has landed him a multi-year deal with Paramount.

Parken Finn became a huge sensation after his success with the movie “Smile” which became a box office success, The movie was written and directed by Finn and it became the 2022 top horror movie grossing $216 million worldwide with a $17 million budget. 

This huge success with the movie landed Finn a multi-year first-look deal, in which he would write, produce, and direct horror movies for the platform. While the details of the deal are kept hidden the platform expects a sequel of “Smile” but it is not clear what Parker’s next movie would be.

In a statement, Finn said “I am honored and thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. Brian Robbins, Michael Ireland, Daria Cercek, and everyone at Paramount has been truly fantastic partners, and I am grateful for their support and belief in the theatrical experience. I look forward to continuing our collaboration on genre stories that take bold chances and subvert expectations.” 

In a statement, Paramount’s  CEO Brian Robbins said “Smile’s breakthrough success is a testament to Parker’s unique and fresh filmmaking, and we are thrilled that he will make Paramount his home.”

Paramount Pictures Motion Picture  co-presidents Daria Cercek and Michael Ireland said in a statement, “Parker knows how to keep people on the edge of their seat and we’re happy that we get to keep scaring audiences together.”

The movie “Smile” is based on the short film “Laura Hasn’t Slept” and Finn made his directorial debut with the movie. Initially, the movie was made for the Paramount+ streaming service, but the direction of both the movie and Finn’s career changed when screening was done in Burbank during three months of post-production.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December Parker said “The audience was screaming at the screen, so it was very clear that the communal environment and nature of it was incredible,” he added “And to Paramount’s credit, they recognized that, and they got behind the film in such an amazing way.”

The movie was received well by the audience and with its $17 million it became one of the highest-grossing movies of the year 2022.
