Pamela Anderson is set to be honoured with the Golden Eye award at the 2024 Zurich Film Festival, recognizing her significant impact on the film and television industry. The iconic actress, known for her breakout role in Baywatch and her advocacy work, will receive the prestigious award on October 4, 2024, during the Swiss festival’s 20th edition.
The Zurich Film Festival confirmed that Anderson will be the recipient of the honour, which celebrates film stars and industry professionals who have made lasting contributions to the cinematic world. The festival, which runs from October 2 to October 13, 2024, will spotlight Anderson for her diverse career, spanning acting, activism, and documentary filmmaking.
Anderson rose to fame in the 1990s, becoming a global sensation for her role as lifeguard C.J. Parker on Baywatch, which remains one of the most-watched television shows in history. Christian Jungen, the artistic director of the Zurich Film Festival, expressed excitement about honouring Anderson, stating, “She completely immersed herself in her character, turned Shelley’s inner life inside out with her facial expressions and made sure that we sympathized with her.”
In addition to receiving the Golden Eye award, Anderson will also present her latest film, The Last Showgirl at the festival. The film, which premiered in Toronto this year, stars Anderson as a 50-year-old showgirl, Shelley, who faces the end of her long-running Las Vegas show. It alsostars Jamie Lee Curtis as Annette, Shelley’s (Anderson) colleague, Billie Lourd as the estranged daughter Hannah and Brenda Song and Kiernan Shipka as two of Anderson’s younger showgirl colleagues. Dave Bautista portrays Eddie, the stage manager of the show.
The Zurich Film Festival has become a prominent event on the international film circuit, attracting top talent and films from around the globe. Anderson joins an illustrious list of past honorees, including legendary figures such as Eddie Redmayne and Helen Hunt, underscoring her lasting influence in the entertainment industry.
