The nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards were recently announced just to raise the bar of expectations and excitement. And this year’s Oscars nominations have some notable names in its first-time nominees’ list. Here are the actors and singers who have received their first-ever Oscar nominations.

Brendan Fraser had a major comeback in the critically acclaimed film, The Whale. Notably, he got his first-ever Academy Awards nomination for his powerful performance. Fraser starred as a 600lb school teacher in Darren Aronofsky’s film.

Austin Butler‘s breathtaking performance as Elvis Presley in the biopic Elvis got him his first nomination. Ana de Armas also got the nomination for Blonde.

Colin Farrell‘s career took a turn with his gut-wrenching performance in The Banshees of Inisherin. Colin starred as a simple Irish man who tries desperately to reconnect with his former best friend during the Irish Civil War. The film shows his attempts to reconcile his relationship and his emotions.

Jamie Lee Curtis spent her life in Hollywood but she received the first nod at the age of 64. The actress was super excited when she got the Oscars nominations in the category of Actress in the lead role for Everything Everywhere All at Once. The actress was way more than excited and shared three images of her reaction to the honour. One of the photos features the actual moment it happened which left her with her hand over her mouth. She also shared a photo with her hands over her head and another where she was locked in an embrace with her husband Christopher Guest.

Michelle Yeoh creates history as the first Asian nominated in the Best Actress category at Academy Awards. Michelle got the nod for Everything Everywhere All at Once. She also shared her overwhelming and overjoyed reaction to the honour. The actress revealed that playing Evelyn Wang has been one of the great privileges of her 40-year career.

Angela Bassett becomes the first actress nominated for a Marvel movie. The actress received a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Notably, the historic nod made her the first woman, the first person of colour and the first Marvel Studios actor to be nominated for an Oscar for their performance in the Black Panther sequel.

For the same film, pop icon Rihanna receives her first-ever Academy Award nomination. The singer has received her very first Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category for her tune Lift Me Up from the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
