Netflix Renewed ‘The Umbrella Academy’ For Fourth Season

The Umbrella Academy renewed for season 4 just over two months after the third season premiered on the streaming platform.

The Umbrella Academy is renewed for a fourth season that will also be the last chapter in the superhero series. Netflix recently announced that the renewal of Elliot Page-led popular show while sharing a poster for the final season. The caption of the social media post reads, “Family meeting, Brellies: We’re going on a fourth and final adventure.”

The announcement comes just over two months after the third season premiered on the streaming platform. Showrunner Steve Blackman assured fans in a statement that the last season will be worthy of its predecessors, saying, ‘We’ve got an amazing story ahead.’ Blackman added, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago.”

The showrunner further said, “But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.” Blackman also gave fans an idea of what they can expect from the last season while speaking with Netflix’s TUDUM. He revealed that the siblings are always up for a challenge.

Previously, Blackman also teased, “there are new enemies who want to see them wiped out of existence, but how do they manage without their powers? Is there even a way to get them back? The stakes have never been greater.” Cast members who will make their return in the upcoming season include Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore. Netflix will announce additional casting news soon.

The third season of the show saw Page’s character Vanya Hargreeves come out as transgender and transition into Viktor Hargreeves – which reflected the 35-year-old Juno star’s personal life, after the actor revealed he is transgender in December 2020. The Umbrella Academy premiered in 2019 and follows a family of seven superhero siblings who fight to save the world. The show is based on the comic book series of the same name, written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way. The first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy are available to stream on Netflix.
