Netflix Drops First Trailer of Britney Vs Spears

The upcoming Netflix documentary depicts the detailed story of the conservatorship battle of Britney Spears titled Britney vs Spears.

Netflix has unveiled the first full trailer of Britney vs Spears by Erin Lee Carr. The documentary will explore the legal battle over the pop star’s mental health, autonomy, and the controversial conservatorship overseen by her father. The documentary also includes the impact of the hashtag FreeBritney movement.

It seems that the documentary will uncover new information, as the trailer teases a ‘confidential report’ leaked by ‘someone very close to the conservatorship’. It also features interviews with lawyers. Although, Britney Spears’ conservatorship started in 2008, yet her testimony from 23 June was her first time speaking publicly about it. The new teaser also includes excerpts from her testimony that says, ‘I just want my life back… It’s been 13 years, and it’s enough.”

A man who appears to be a medical professional appears on-camera in the trailer, saying, “I’m not going to acknowledge that I was ever brought in to evaluate Britney Spears.” The documentary is directed by Erin Lee Carr and is slated to release on 28 September, a day before a key hearing in the conservatorship case. Britney Spears via her lawyer Matthew Rosengart, filed a petition to “expeditiously” end the conservatorship, and the filing will be heard on 29 September.

However, the trailer does not unveil exactly who sat down for the documentary. The Netflix trailer features voiceovers of various people weighing in on Spears’ conservatorship documentary, including Spears’ format beau, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, and a legal expert who appears to be an attorney specializing in conservatorship cases. Also, in images released on Wednesday, the singer’s former assistant, Felicia Culotta, is included.

“Britney had the fear that her family would barge in and take everything,” the voiceover in the trailer says. At the time of her testimony, Britney had termed the conservatorship “abusive” and had described the trauma of being in the arrangement where her self and estate were controlled by conservators. The conservatorship was being managed by her father Jamie Spears.

“I’ve worked my whole life, I don’t owe this person anything,” Britney stated in an audio clip. The trailer also shows a sneak peek of a #FreeBritney protest. The #FreeBritney movement was started by the pop star’s fans who were headful about Britney’s treatment under the conservatorship. Fans had also once gathered outside a courthouse in July during a hearing to voice their support.

Britney Spears has not yet responded to the Netflix documentary. So it is unclear whether she was able to be reached for the project, or was aware of it before it was announced this week.
