Globally loved iconic TV music channel MTV has finally dropped down the curtains and unveiled the full list of VMAs 2021 nominations.
Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion lead this year’s nominations with almost 7 nominations respectively followed by the global superstars and 21st century K pop icons septet BTS, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo who is also a first-time nominee with five nominations each. Among first-time nominees like Olivia are also The Kid LAROI, 24kGoldn, and Seventeen.
We all know that four years back in the year 2017, MTV had gotten rid of its gendered categories for the VMAs and this year is also going to be the same. The 2021 VMAs will feature 14 categories, including the coveted ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’.
As clearly mentioned by MTV in a press release, the MTV VMAs feature “artists whose cultural impact and work over the past year has transformed the music industry and created global conversation”.
The much awaited 2021 VMAs are going to be taking place in New York City’s Barclays Center on Sunday, 12th September and for the first time in a while since the global wide COVID-19 pandemic happened, fans will be present at the event but would strictly be following the mandatory COVID-19 prevention protocols.
Also, like every time, the VMAs will be broadcasted live to the world. Starting right from 11th August till 3rd September, fans can vote for their favorite acts across the 14 categories on vma.mtv.com.
