Miley Cyrus’ New Song ‘Flowers’ Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100

This marked the first time one of Miley Cyrus' songs debuted on the top spot for the Billboard Hot 100.

Miley Cyrus recently released her new song Flowers and it is already trending on the internet. Moreover, it was revealed on Wednesday that Miley Cyrus Flowers debuted at number one on the Billboard chart after Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Anti-Hero had eight weeks at number one.

This marked the first time one of Cyrus’ songs debuted on the top spot for the Billboard Hot 100. Miley Cyrus’ last number-one Billboard song was Wrecking Ball in 2013, but it did not directly make it to the top spot, but instead took some time to get there. Moreover, Miley Cyrus has smashed Spotify’s One-Week streaming record with her latest single Flowers.

From January 13 to January 19, the singer’s new song was streamed over 96 million times on the service alone. Additionally, it has become the most-streamed song over a single week on Spotify just seven days after it was first released. Flowers was also the number one song globally in that period on Spotify.

For the unversed, Flowers is reportedly about how she is doing after her divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth as there are several references to them in the song. Interestingly, Flowers was released on Liam Hemsworth’s birthday, which is on January 13. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were in an on-and-off relationship for nearly a decade after meeting on the set of their film, The Last Song (2010), when Miley was 17 and Liam was 19.

In the song, she referred to November 2018 devastating incident, as she sings, “We were right / til we weren’t / built a home and watched it burn.” She was referencing the time when Miley and Liam’s home was completely destroyed as a result of the devastating Woolsey Fire. The now ex-couple tied the knot just a month later but split after less than a year in August 2019.
