Lily-Rose Depp recently shared a vulnerable moment from her childhood, recalling how her father Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Edward Scissorhands left a lasting impression. Speaking to Harper Bazaar U.K., Lily-Rose explained that while most kids might have been frightened by Edward’s ghostly appearance or scissor hands, her fear came from a deeper place. “I was traumatized by it. Not because I thought he was scary but because everyone was being so mean to him and I got really upset,” she said. Her parents allowed her to watch the Tim Burton classic when she was just three years old but the ending where Edward is rejected by the townsfolk left her so shaken that she hasn’t revisited the movie since then.
Reflecting on her experience, Lily-Rose Depp admitted that this early exposure shaped her empathy and the kind of roles she gravitates toward as an actor. “I’m interested in the darker underbelly of things,” she shared. Her latest project Nosferatu embodies this interest. In the film, a reimagining of the 1922 silent horror classic she plays Ellen Hutter, a newlywed caught in the obsessive gaze of Count Orlok played by Bill Skarsgård.

While the character of Nosferatu is menacing, Lily-Rose revealed that she feels a surprising connection to such misunderstood figures. “Edward’s the good guy, and Nosferatu’s kind of the bad guy, but there’s a part of me that feels a little bit of empathy for Nosferatu. I mean, am I sick for feeling that way?” she joked.
Lily-Rose Depp continues to carve out her own identity in Hollywood, stepping out of the shadow of her famous parents while embracing roles that challenge her creatively.
