Lightyear Trailer Becomes Pixar’s Second Most Viewed In 24 Hours After Incredibles 2

The teaser trailer of Lightyear grossed 83 million views in its first 24 hours. Helmed by Angus MacLane, the movie is slated to release in summer 2022.

The Toy Story spinoff debuted its first teaser trailer on Wednesday, October 27, and it’s already amassed an insane amount of views. The teaser trailer for Lightyear witnessed a big win for both Disney and Pixar in its first 24 hours, coming only behind The Incredibles 2.

According to Deadline, the one-minute and thirty-three-second teaser trailer for Lightyear grossed 83 million views in its first 24 hours. That puts it above the first 24 hours for fellow Pixar films like Toy Story 4 with 62 million and even outperformed Marvel’s Eternals with 77 million. Lightyear is now become the second-best performing Pixar trailer in its first 24 hours, behind only Incredibles 2 with 114 million.

Lightyear has also stayed in Global Twitter trends and climbed to number 1 where it stayed most of the day after the trailer dropped, with the teaser also grabbing the number one position on Reddit. Toy Story is one of the biggest franchises in Disney’s catalog, with the four films having generated a worldwide total of $3 billion worldwide.

The announcement of a new Toy Story-related project would be high, and while Lightyear was announced in December 2020, it may not have registered with the general audience exactly what the project would be expected until the release of the trailer. The trailer created a buzz among fans. Similarly, Incredibles 2 was both a long-awaited sequel but also a superhero action film. Meanwhile, Lightyear is promising audiences a bold new take on the space ranger with a massive sci-fi epic.

However, this is a promising start for its box office. Lightyear will hit theaters on the third weekend of June 2022. The plot is set to focus on the story that inspired the Buzz Lightyear line of toys in the Toy Story films, Lightyear features Chris Evans’ voice as the famous space ranger. The film is directed by Angus MacLane, who co-directed Finding Dory and previously directed the Toy Story short, Small Fry, and the Halloween special, Toy Story of Terror.
